Almond Christmas Balls

1 cup soft butter
1/4 cup confectioners sugar
2 cups sifted flour
1 cup ground almonds
1 teaspoon almond extract
Candied or maraschino cherries

Cream first five ingredients together. Roll a teaspoon of dough into a ball and press cherry into middle, covering cherry completely. Bake on greased cookie sheet 30 minutes at 325 degrees F. Roll in granulated sugar before cooling.

Makes 4 dozen.
