Ho Ho Hazelnut Cherry Cookies

1 c butter or margarine, softened
1/3 c powdered sugar
1/2 t almond extract
2-1/4 c flour
1/4 t salt
1/2 c finely chopped hazelnuts
48 maraschino cherries, drained
powdered sugar

Mix butter & sugar until blended; add almond extract and mix well. Stir in flour, salt & hazelnuts. Shape about 2 t dough around each cherry. Place on ungreased cookie sheet about 1" apart. Bake at 375°F for 12-15 min. or until set but not browned. Roll in powdered sugar while still warm. Cool. If desired, roll in powdered sugar again.
